Character creation
Oh character creation, you beautiful monstrosity Miyazaki gave us.
Some of you probably played a RPG game with character creation before and you're probably wondering "What is he talking about? Character creation is great! You can choose your own class and make your own character, what not to love about it?" Not here friend, here they let you do things that shouldn't be allowed anywhere. But let's get a run around all options shall we?
First the name, that should be easy enough.
Second sex, also very simple.
Third class, and here the fun begins.
The game gives you ten choices, all different in their own way but don't worry we'll be covering all of them.
The first one a Warrior, wielding a good sword a great shield, wearing an average armor. Their stats can show us a great health and resistance stat, excellent strength and dexterity which will let you use many weapons barely upgrading your character but low intelligence and faith which are needed to preform both types of magic in the game.
Warrior is the a excellent class for people who want to jump straight into the action and combat in DS. It also has perfect stats for starting a strength-dex built.
Second Knight, starting with the good sword, and excellent shield, wearing a great armor. Their stats can show us amazing health with good faith, letting you use miracles early on, it also has good strength and dexterity but poor magic and resistances. The biggest problem with knight is how heavy his equipment is.
Knight is a perfect class for people new to the RPG and souls like games, it's also perfect for starting a tank built.
Third a Wanderer, with the great sword and decent shield, and decent armor. Most of their stats are simply good but with great attunement, intelligence and resistance, allowing for great mix magic with their weapons only with few upgrades, and excellent dexterity. The bad thing about the wanderer is their lack of defense.
Wanderer is a good class for people who want to experiment with their character but also let it remain the starting pluses making a perfect candidate far dex-magic build.
Fourth the Thief, who's starting equipment is hard to work with, giving players short ranged dagger and a small shield. Their stats give you low health, endurance and strength, but good resistance, great faith and intelligence and excellent dexterity.
Thief is a class for more experienced players it might doesn't seem like but it's a really good class with dagger having high crit damage and shield being easy to parry with but also allowing players preform both types of magic fairly early on. Thief is a perfect class for a hybrid builds using all three forms of combat to inflict damage upon their enemies.
Fifth a Bandit, who starts with powerful axe and decent shield but with bad armor. Their stats give us bad dexterity and intelligence, good faith and resistance, and great health and strength. The worst thing about it is definitely their low dexterity not allowing the user to use many weapons.
Bandit is a great class for a strength build.
Sixth the Hunter, it's the only class that starts with the bow, it has a good sword a great shield and a decent armor. Their stats are poor intelligence and faith but great strength, health and resistances, and excellent dexterity. He has same problem as warrior which is lack of both magic types abilities.
Hunter is a great option for dex built.
Seventh a Sorcerer, wielding a small dagger, small shield and staff that lets him preform intelligence based magic while wearing a decent armor. His stats give you excellent intelligence and attunement stats and good dexterity but all rest being bad.
Sorcerer is only class that starts with staff and magic and with its high intelligence being perfect for a magic built.
Eight Pyromancer, starting with the hand axe, cacked shield and pyromancy flame, wearing a decent armor. Its stats showing good health and intelligence and great attunement, strength and resistance with bad faith and dexterity.
The pyromancer is the only class starting with the pyromancy flame that lets you use pyromancies it is a great starting time for all players and it doesn't really have fitting built either.
Nineth the Cleric, wielding a good mace, decent shield and a talisman while wearing good armor. In its stats we can see excellent faith, good health and resistance and a great strength.
Cleric is the only class wielding a talisman and with its amazing faith and stats it's perfect for strength-faith builds.
But in my opinion, cleric is useless, the only good thing about him is his high faith stat, but rest of it? An hour and less into the game you can already obtain two different talisman and have a miracles shopkeeper. But again it's just my personal opinion.
And finally tenth THE DEPRIVED, starting with a club and a plank shield wearing F#@!ING NOTHING with all stats being great.
Deprived lets you literally make your own character from scraps and all stats being at the same level, bad thing about it is fact that it has no defenses but you can buy armor pretty early into the game so that's not really a problem. Also I just found it funny that this is the quate from deprived wiki page:
"The club is really fire actually and most people sleep on it fr fr, use this knowledge accordingly"
And don't worry I will be explaining what build is in different and also how does equipment load works.
All right so we are finally through classes let's see what's next.
Gifts
Goddess's Blessing which is the one use full health and status effect item, which isn't the greatest option when we look at one use.
Black Firebomb which is the stronger version of normal firebomb and personally I would say It's pretty good, given the facts that you can use it ten times before you runout of them and they can do some good damage, later in the game you can purchase infinite amount of them making them in some way farmable so they're not really a special item but still good one.
Twin Humanities, now humanity is an item that will heal you to full hp but also add humanity into counter on top left part of your screen which then lets you use them for few options but I will be talking about them in different post. Are twin humanities worth it? I honestly don't know after, tutorial you literally get three but more can always help so idk.
Binoculars not worth it. You know how binoculars work you look through them and you see further but you can get them right after tutorial and now you would just have two binoculars.
Pendant that's it, I won't say anything more about that item.
Mater key, now here were it gets messy. You see master key basically lets you open every locked non important for progress lock without the original key needed which is really good, but also bad, you see DS has a lot of areas and a lot of the has shortcuts to reach each other faster and some of that shortcuts are open by key but because shortcuts are not important for progression you can pen them with master key.
"Well that sounds even better not only can you get to places and items you would have to spent time on finding a key you can also travel quickly across the world" true but then you can quite literally get lost by entering area you should hae higher level for not forgot you access it with master key and try to progress through higher level area while thinking you're supposed to be there.
So is it a good item? Definitely. Is it good to have it on your first playthrough? Yes and no. Should you use it? Up to you.
Also thief class starts with it so you can have it and also choose other gift.
Tiny Being's Ring which raises your hp by little bit when you wear it.
Old Witch's Ring which is useful later in the run.
And that's it. I feel like I should also add, you can get all of these items later in your playthrough including master key.
Alright after the class and gift selection the game goes back to your characters look.
Physique.
Face (which is also skin color)
Hair
And finally eye color
So now you may be thinking :
"Hey that wasn't so bad I actually had some fun while creating this character, are you sure you haven't just overreacted?" Well my dear friend I think you forget there's still one more option we haven't clicked on, CUSTOMIZE
"What's that?" That my friend IS THE HELL ON EARTH, BEHIND EACH OF THOSE LABLES THERES SET OF SEVEN OR FOURTEEN DIFFERENT SETTINGS, WHERE EACH ONE CHANGES TINY THING ABOUT YOUR CHARACTERS LOOKS.
And on the first look it's not that bad, there's just more options to make your character look more like you want them to. So first you try to make some sense with it, then you realize how many things you can actually do, so the experimenting starts, but THEN you realize how F#$KED UP things you can do so from experimenting you go to messing around, UNTIL YOU END UPWITH SOMETHING LIKE THIS
WHAT THE F#$K IS WRONG WITH ME?! I need a f%$king break I can't do this anymore, I hope you'll have amazing rest of your day, bye.
